Ceiling fans come in various sizes, from 16″ for corner fans to more than 100″ for large ceiling fans. The size of the fan affects coverage area. For normal residential use, the most common sizes are from 36″ to 56″. The size of a ceiling fan is determined by the length and breadth of the area you would like to cool. In the local Singapore market, ceiling fan sizes are in inches and refer to the total diameter. For areas of approximately 2 by 2 meters, the recommended ceiling fan size is around 42”. For areas of approximately 3 by 3 meters, the recommended ceiling fan size is around 52”. For areas larger than 3 by 3 meters, the recommended ceiling fan size is 52” or more. Size needs to account for features such as L-boxes and wardrobes that will affect airflow.
Height is also a consideration. Common residential heights are between 2.6m to 3m. Most ceiling fan heights are about 33 to 36cm, which equates to a distance of around 2.2m to 2.6m from floor to the base of the ceiling fan after installation. For areas with lower ceiling heights, ceiling fans with shorter neck or hugger are recommended to increase the distance between the floor and ceiling fan.

For smaller areas like kitchen, study or bomb shelter, ceiling corner fans work best as they are versatile and can be installed at a corner and used to pass air from one corner of the room to the other. The angle and speed of the ceiling corner fan can be easily controlled using the remote. As compared to traditional ceiling fans, they are also relatively easy to install and also tend to be more energy efficient. They are effective when properly installed and are ideal for areas where it is not practical to install ceiling fans.
